The richest 1% own about 45% of global wealth. It’s a lot of money, and with all that’s been happening over the world in the last few years, people have wondered whether the wealthiest people should be taxed heavily, and thier money be used to build infrastructure for the public. Others oppose this idea and think it’s their business what they do with their money.
We don’t fully agree with either, as the net worth that we calculate of these Billionaires is reflective of the stocks they hold in their companies. If they were to sell all their stocks, the valuations of their company and as a result their net worth, would tumble. It’s not as simple as some people make it sound, really!
Anyway, we leave it up to you to decide, but first, let’s take a look at the list of: 15 richest people in the world in April, 2024.
15. Gautam Adani: $71.99 Billion
Gautam Adani is yet another Indian Businessman (apart from Ambani) to be included in the list of Richest People in the world. His group company Adani Group has interests in Ports, Power & Energy, Infrastructure, Airport management, food processing, etc.
Their flagship company is Adani Enterprises and they also have their hands on the clean energy sector.
Adani Group own Mundra Port, which is the largest private port in India located in Kutch, Gujarat.
Gautam Adani’s net worth is estimated to be $71.99 Billion in 2024.
14. Carlos Slim: $75.30 Billion
Carlos Slim Helú is the richest man of Mexico. He has invested his money into various sectors and companies operating across Mexico and United States. His investment account for about 40% of all listed companies of the Mexican Stock market.
He had even loaned $250 Million to The New York Times for digital media expansion and currently owns 17% stake in the company. Helu is currently the CEO of three companies, Groupo Carso (His own Company), América Móvil (A large telecom operator based in Mexico), and Telmex (A subsidiary of América Móvil).
He was the ranked the wealthiest person in the world from 2013 to 2014, overtaking Bill Gates for two years.

13. Francoise Bettencourt Meyers & family: $81.99 Billion
Francoise Bettencourt Meyers is the granddaughter of L’Oreal’s founder, Eugene Schueller.
With ownership of 33% of L’Oreal, her net worth is $81.99 Billion. This puts her in the 13th position on this list and makes her the richest woman in the World.
12. Amancio Ortega: $82.59 Billion
Amancio Ortega was once the richest man in Europe. He and his wife founded Inditex Group that owns ZARA and some other fashion brands. Their first store was called Zorba, but due to conflicting name with a nearby bar they had to change it to ZARA.
They are considered as one of the greatest retailers in the world for their expertise and ability to deliver products faster than anyone else. This has made them the biggest fashion Company in the world.

11. Steve Ballmer: $94.81 Billion
Steve Ballmer was the CEO of Microsoft from the year 2000-2014. He was hired at Microsoft by Bill Gates in 1980. Currently he is the Governor of Los Angeles Clippers of the National Basketball Association (NBA).
This year, 2024, Steve Ballmer’s net worth is about $94.81 Billion.

Mukesh Ambani is the Chairman cum Managing director of Reliance Industries limited. 9. Warren Buffett: $107.59 Billion
Warren Buffett often touted as the Oracle of Omaha is the chairman and CEO of Berkshire Hathaway. He likes to own value producing companies and assets instead of non-value producing assets like gold or unproductive land.
Despite being one of the richest people in the world, Buffett has a modest lifestyle. He still lives in his $650,000 house in Omaha, Nebraska which he had bought in 1958 for $31,500.

Larry Ellison is at #5 in the list of richest people in the world in April, 2024. He is the Co-Founder of the Oracle Corporation, which is the third biggest software Company after Microsoft and Alphabet.
Larry is currently the executive chairman and Chief Technology Officer of the company. Oracle specialises in Database Management software and cloud engineering systems.
Apart from Oracle, Larry Ellison also owns ~15 Million shares of $TSLA worth about $12 Billion.

Who doesn’t know Bill Gates, the co-founder of Microsoft? What you might not know is that his real name is William Henry Gates III. He is still the Technology Advisor of Microsoft and a Board member at both Microsoft and Berkshire Hathaway.

Now in 2024, he was pushed further down to #3 by French Tycoon, Bernard Arnault.

Many months ago, Bernard Jean Etienne Arnault was the wealthiest person on the Planet, but now he’s back to #2 after slight decline in the share prices of LVMH.
He owns about 235 Million shares of LVMH, currently trading at ~ $791. Apart from that he also owns some stake in Hermes International.

Elon’s journey is quite interesting. At the age of 12, he developed a game and sold it for $500. Then in 1995, after graduating he started Zip2 that developed and marketed an internet city guide for Newspaper publishing industry. The company was then sold to Compaq for $341 Million in February of 1999.
Musk received $22 Million for his 7% share in the sale. A month later he co-founded x.com, an e-mail based payments company. A year later it merged with Confinity. The company had a similar online payments service called PayPal. To focus on the payments business it was later renamed to PayPal.
In 2002 PayPal was acquired by eBay for $1.5 Billion out of which Musk’s share was $165 Milion. Even before the sale of PayPal Musk was obsessed with getting humans to Mars. But, the price of a Rocket looked very costly to him.
According to Musk, the price of components of a Rocket were only about 3% of the cost. Having done the math, he decided to build his own Rockets.

It was their hard work that paid off, and if we ever become space faring civilisations (and we will xD) you know whom to thank. I really think that we need more people like Elon Musk.
