Who doesn’t know Bill Gates, the co-founder of Microsoft? What you might not know is that his real name is William Henry Gates III. He is still the Technology Advisor of Microsoft and a Board member at both Microsoft and Berkshire Hathaway.

Presently ranked no. 4 in the list of richest people in the world, Bill Gates became a Billionaire (youngest Billionaire of that time) at an age of 31. Eight years later, in 1995 he became the world’s richest person with a net worth of US $12.9 Billion.

His company Microsoft enjoys 75.47% market share of Desktop Operating systems, and 35.6% in all segments (Data from: Statcounter). Gates is one of the best-known tech entrepreneurs of the mid 1980s and he also saved Apple Inc. in 1997. Currently most of his investments are held by his company Cascade Investments LLC, which is managed by Michael Larson.

Bill has donated large amounts of money to various organizations through Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. But, unlike other philanthropists he ensures that all his money is used efficiently by following up with them, and offering complete solution to the organisation that he donates. You can follow his work through his website: Gates Notes and his YouTube channel: Bill Gates YouTube.

Here’s one of his interesting quotes: “Success is a lousy teacher. It seduces smart people into thinking they can’t lose.

3. Elon Musk: $173.60 Billion

Elon owns and runs various companies like Tesla, SpaceX, the Boring company, Open AI, and Neuralink.

Elon’s journey is quite interesting. At the age of 12, he developed a game and sold it for $500. Then in 1995, after graduating he started Zip2 that developed and marketed an internet city guide for Newspaper publishing industry. The company was then sold to Compaq for $341 Million in February of 1999.

Musk received $22 Million for his 7% share in the sale. A month later he co-founded, an e-mail based payments company. A year later it merged with Confinity. The company had a similar online payments service called PayPal. To focus on the payments business it was later renamed to PayPal.

In 2002 PayPal was acquired by eBay for $1.5 Billion out of which Musk’s share was $165 Milion. Even before the sale of PayPal Musk was obsessed with getting humans to Mars. But, the price of a Rocket looked very costly to him.

According to Musk, the price of components of a Rocket were only about 3% of the cost. Having done the math, he decided to build his own Rockets.

A Quote from Elon Musk : “When something is important enough, you do it even if the odds are not in your favor.”

After the PayPal sale Musk used his hundreds of millions of dollars to start SpaceX. Then, in 2004 he invested heavily in Tesla and became its Chairman. Having shuffled through different companies Musk had finally found his love in SpaceX and Tesla. So much so that he said he’d be the last person to cash out of Tesla but clarified that it would only be done to fund SpaceX’s mars colonisation missions.

Even Musk himself thought that he would fail, which he did, multiple times. But the law of averages kicked in and… he did the impossible. Okay, it wasn’t the law of averages. It was their hard work that paid off, and if we ever become space faring civilisations (and we will xD) you know whom to thank. I really think that we need more people like Elon Musk.

Elon Musk recently out-throned the founder Jeff Bezos to become the Richest Person in the world, but he’s now back to 3rd position!

  9. Merry Christmas All! May Jesus bless you all! I find it fascinating that with both hard work and good money skills, the sky is the limit as to what one can earn! I am teaching my young sons that if they are hard working and wise
with what they earn, they too can be successful! But above this helping others is also crucial along the way,as so many people do not have! Most often, if people realized that others may just be one break away from prosperity rather than poverty, I feel that we would feel more obliged to help our fellow man! Jesus died on the cross for our sins, and shed his blood for our transgressions. He gave his life that we would have life eternal! If we believe this
and accept him as our savior, we will have eternal life!

    Happy New Year!

    James Thomas

    • Belated Merry Christmas and Happy new year in advance!
I agree that people should help others as much as they can. No amount of money can equate to the help that a person can do to another person or a creature.
